New mandatory face covering law
It is now a legal requirement for any passenger on a bus, coach, train, tram, ferry or aircraft to wear a face covering whilst they are travelling.
Whilst Government advice is still to avoid public transport where possible and seek to travel by foot, cycle or private car, clearly for many people this alternative to public transport is not an option.
The requirement is not for a face mask, but for a face covering – this can include scarves, snoods or other textile items that cover the mouth and nose whilst allowing the wearer to breathe comfortably.
Please note that children under 11, disabled people and people with certain health conditions are exempt from this law. A fine of £100 will be levied on people who do not comply.
