Coalville legal experts join fight against faceless solicitors
One of Coalville’s most established law practices has joined a nationwide campaign highlighting the pitfalls of a call centre approach to legal services.
QualitySolicitors Mander Cruickshank are part of the Keep Solicitors Local campaign, educating the public as to why they are in safer hands dealing with established legal practices.
The campaign is headed by the prestigious QualitySolicitors brand, which has 400 members throughout the country, and which QualitySolicitors Mander Cruickshank joined earlier this year.
QualitySolicitors launched the initiative as a reaction to new players including retail businesses, banks and breakdown companies giving legal advice following the deregulation of some services.
Mr Abbott, whose firm has been in the town almost 90 years, said: “A call centre option of legal services dealing with faceless solicitors about matters of extreme importance is an inappropriate way for legal services to be handled.”
He added that his practice has had to pick up the pieces after poor advice had been meted out by remote solicitors.
He said: “On occasions some advice we’ve heard from these new age outfits has been poor.
“The simple fact is by the nature and complexity of law an impersonal call centre format without a designated solicitor having accountability is littered with pitfalls. At best the experience is frustrating for the public and at worst could lead to increased costs.”
He said: “As all of us know dealing with someone on the end of a telephone, who you may not speak to again can cause so many problems.”
“For instance, in property transactions, these can be very complex and it is often vital that the buyer speaks to his solicitor face to face to see the best way of overcoming issues. What has to be remembered is buying property is probably the biggest financial outlay an individual is ever to make and cannot be left to chance.”
Mr Abbott, whose firm also has offices in Hinckley, added: “Local firms build up close relationships face to face with their clients and the public need to know that these firms are there to act purely on their behalf.”
“Good law firms are an integral part of the communities they serve and long may they remain so.”
